WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR STUDENTS, FAMILIES AND STAFF MEMBERS?
STUDENTS:
Every AMS student will have high expectations for learning. Students will be required to get their work done and done well. If a student does not complete their work or has to make improvements to the quality of the work, they will make contact home to schedule a time with their parent(s) to attend the ICU program. During ICU time, students can work with staff members if they need additional assistance on their assignment. Student athletes may be required to miss part of practice to get work done. The staff at AMS want all students to be successful in their academics, feel confident about being able to get their work done and understand what they are learning.
FAMILIES:
Family support is an integral part of this process. The staff at AMS will work together and communicate with families to help promote a successful educational experience for all students. A number of informational meetings will be held throughout the school year regarding ICU and parental attendance at these meetings will allow families to gain valuable details regarding the program and get any needed clarification. Please assist us in communicating with your child about late work and be willing to help arrange times that your child can attend the ICU program before and after school. We offer Parent Portal to all families for easy, online access at any time to their child's progress and performance in all academic classes. Regular checks of Parent Portal will ensure that you are aware of how your child is doing in their classes.
STAFF MEMBERS:
Staff members will work to ensure that students with missing or incomplete work are placed on the ICU list to get the extra help and/or time that they may need. Staff will make regular updates on Parent Portal to allow families to access current information regarding student progress. Staff members will work with students to set clear expectations for assignments and will be consistent and supportive in meeting the needs of all students. Staff members, in most cases, will accept late work without penalty and will not assign a zero value for assignments not completed. Staff members will participate in professional development activities that align with the ICU philosophy throughout the school year to continue learning about how to best meet the needs of all students.
ICU DAILY TIMES AND LOCATIONS:
Before School- 7:30-8:10 in the Tech Apps Classroom
After School- 3:00-4:00 in the Media Center
During Student Lunch Periods- in the Tech Apps Classroom
